From MITCHELL OWENS,
executive editor, Elle Decor: Charles Madigan of the
Chicago Tribune may state
that he invented the term "info-pimp," as per his latest
column, but the word has been around for a lot longer.
He defines it thusly, as per the recent Obama-madrassah
rumors: "People who pick up questionable things and
present them as real are info-pimps."
As blogger
The Happy Slave stated
on 21 March 2006, "Of course, many of us have known for
quite a long time that all the large commercial "news"
outlets have no actual reporters nor editors, just
different ranks of infopimps. Like good little
infopimps, they pander. Too bad they think that being an
infopimp is the same as being a journalist."
This
alternate definition and slightly earlier use of this
highly useful word is not to take away from the
enjoyment of Mr Madigan's humorous column, however, or
its central truth, which seems to be that is everyone's
best interest to know what's news ... and what's not. [Permalink] |
