Ireland’s Broadcasting Authority may fine Ireland’s public broadcaster RTE €250,000 for its program on Father Kevin Reynolds, the Irish Times reported. The fine is separate from the libel payment the broadcaster made to Father Reynolds.
The authority is investigating the network after it libeled Catholic priest Father Kevin Reynolds by accusing him of raping and impregnating a minor, as we have written.
According to the Irish Times, “It is the first such investigation under Section 53 of the Broadcasting Act.”
The Irish Times also noted that the broadcasting authority won’t look into RTE’s accusations against late Brother Gerard Dillon, whose family and brotherhood have questioned RTE’s report alleging he sexually abused student. (See our report on that here.)
