UK media regulator OfCom announced its list of most complained about issues, the Guardian reported. The list reflects the most complaints made to Ofcom directly.
Three of the top five biggest complaints were news program-related (the other two complaints relate to entertainment broadcasting).
Most complained about is Channel 5 Matthew Wright’s December comments that were criticized as mocking or “bellittling” a murdered teenager (see our story on that here). The third most complained about issue were BBC’s Jeremy Clarkson’s comments calling for people on strike to be shot (see our December 2 story on that here), and fifth most complained about was Channel 4’s documentary of Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields. (See our July story on that here.)
As the Guardian noted, Clarkson’s comments triggered more than 31,000 complaints to the BBC directly, which aren’t included in the OfCom list.
