The BBC, ITN and Sky News are appealing court order to give the police their footage of “the first two days of the Dale Farm eviction,” Journalism.co.uk reported. According to the Telegraph, Dale Farm is “Britain’s biggest illegal travellers’ camp.”
The news outlets questioned the order because they didn’t want the public to view the press as “evidence gatherers for the police,” according to Journalism.co.uk
We previously wrote when the BBC apologized for a report on the eviction that was found to be biased.
In January, a Northern Ireland court ruled that the BBC didn’t have to comply with court order to provide footage from an April 2011 parade. In December, the BBC, ITN News and UTV News were ordered to give their unaired footage over an August 2011 Northern Ireland parade to the police. In September, the BBC, Sky and ITN News gave some of their footage of the August 2011 London riots to police because of a court order.
