70 More Lawsuits against the Mirror?

Approximately 70 other people plan to sue UK newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror for phone hacking, the Guardian reported.  Trinity Mirror publishes the Sunday Mirror, the Daily Mirror, The People and other papers.

The lawyer for the phone hacking victims, David Sherborne, said in court earlier this month that he’s getting “somewhere in the region of 70 other claims,” which are “substantial,” ready, the Guardian reported. iMediaEthics has written to Sherborne for more information about the status of these lawsuits.

In addition, the Mirror settled ten other lawsuits, according to the BBC.

According to the Press Gazette, the total is now at 98 lawsuits filed against the Mirror Group. Those suing include Hugh Grant, Rhys Ifans, Elizabeth Hurley, Jemima Khan, and Simon Clegg.

After a trial earlier this month, the Mirror Group was ordered to pay about two million U.S. dollars to eight phone hacking victims.  The Mirror previously settled five other phone hacking lawsuits before the trial.
