The Rochester Business Journal will no longer publish editorial cartoons after upsetting readers with an Oct. 19 cartoon, the Rochester City Newspaper reported.

The New York business news publication published a cartoon by Rick McKee, a cartoonist at the Augusta Chronicle in Georgia, called “A Field Guide to Liberals.” That cartoon, which showed Rachel Dolezal, the white former NAACP leader who said she was black, labeled as black, a dog labeled as a cat, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren labeled as Native American, already triggered an apology from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, but McKee stands by his cartoon.

In an Oct. 24 apology, editor Ben Jacobs said the cartoon “should never have been published.” iMediaEthics has written to Jacobs for more information.

“We do not condone racist or hateful content in any way and are very sorry for running this offensive cartoon,” Jacobs wrote. “This is not what we stand for.”

Jacobs added that the Rochester Business Journal is coordinating with the LGBTQ organization Out Alliance to train staff.
