The Media Blog commented on CNN anchor Piers Morgan’s tweets Jan . 24 about the fake photos indicating “Abuse of Iraqi prisoners by UK troops.”
As the Media Blog detailed, the Mirror published the photos which were later found fake. Then the Mirror published an apology and Morgan was fired from his post as editor.
On Jan. 24, Morgan took to Twitter to comment further on the photos. He tweeted (here, here, here, and here):
- “For the record, this is why I’ve never accepted those Mirror/Iraq photos that got me fired were necessarily fake – http://ind.pn/3rBbpK“
- “They were branded fake by Queen’s Lancashire Regiment, who’ve now been brought to justice. And British Govt, who claimed Saddam had WMD.”
- “Remain very proud of 99.9% of British armed forces, incl my brother (just returned from Afghan, 2 tours of Iraq) who do incredible job.”
- “But those who illegally abuse prisoners in the way some QLR soldiers did in Iraq bring shame on their country.”
Morgan recently started a new interview show with CNN called Piers Morgan Tonight.
