The New York Daily News published an article about the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 this week. But, the article, and excerpts the Daily News published on social media, featured a few significant errors, Twitchy and the Free Beacon flagged.
The article claimed that John Glenn was the first man to walk on the moon, but that was Neil Armstrong. Also, the article claimed the moon is” the only other planet we have ever walked on” which is wrong since the moon isn’t a planet.
Finally, the article misquoted Armstrong’s “one giant leap for mankind” comment.
Journalist Yashar Ali posted a screenshot of the Daily News’ Twitter post with the errors. Facebook posts with the errors now go to error pages, indicating the Daily News hit delete on them.
While the Daily News errors have been fixed in the article, there is no correction.
The New York Post’s Keith Kelly reported the Daily News’ editor-in-chief Robert York said, “It was an unfortunate mistake that was quickly caught and repaired.” iMediaEthics has written to York.
