The New York Times tweeted about former Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher’s new merchandise line.

This summer, Gallagher was acquitted of murder and attempted murder charges in a military court, but was found guilty of and demoted for taking a photo with the corpse of an Islamic State member. Pres. Donald Trump later pardoned him and Galagher retired from the military.

The New York Times declined to comment to iMediaEthics.

“The retired Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher has a new apparel line called Salty Frog Gear, which is described as a ‘coastal lifestyle brand with an edge,'” the original tweet read. It accompanied a story about Gallagher’s “newfound fame” and his new “lifestyle clothing brand” and endorsements.

The Times has since deleted the tweet and issued a new tweet reading “We have deleted an earlier tweet to this story that lacked context. Edward Gallagher, who was acquitted of charges that he killed a wounded captive in Iraq, later received clemency from President Trump — information that’s provided in the article.”
