The New York Times reported this week that Demi Moore will report and host a documentary for CNN on sex trafficking. Her hosting prompts two ethical issues: did CNN bring her in for the publicity and viewership? And, since Moore runs a foundation for the cause, will the documentary promote her own foundation?
The Times reported that CNN International’s executive vice president and managing director Tony Maddox claimed Moore’s involvement isn’t a publicity stunt but rather a reaction to the question “Who are the leading players in this field?”
Moore’s foundation, co-founded with her husband Ashton Kutcher, is the non-profit DNA Foundation. iMediaEthics is writing to CNN to ask how the program will cover Moore’s foundation and if her foundation will receive any CNN press or donation from her involvement. We will update with any response.
