Newt Gingrich has called for NBC News to apologize for its anonymously sourced report that Gingrich’s wife is “to blame” for Gingrich’s staff members quitting in early June, Yahoo News reported. UPI quoted Gingrich as calling NBC News out for having “nobody on camera, nobody quoted by name” making the comments about Gingrich’s wife.

Gingrich stated in a Fox News interview that he has “full responsibility” for his campaign and that the NBC News segment was “totally irresponsible, and personally reprehensible,” according to Yahoo News.

But, NBC News’ political director, Chuck Todd, is backing the network’s story. Todd is quoted as telling Yahoo News :

“Nobody should be surprised when a candidate stands up for their spouse. That said, his anger probably should be at his aides because all of the reporting on this has been about how Newt Gingrich was allowing his personal issues–whether it was actions by his wife, actions by his production company–somehow be prioritized over the presidential campaign. That’s why these folks left.”
