UK newspaper the Daily Mail’s editor-in-chief Paul Dacre announced the Daily Mail, the Mail on Sunday and Metro will start running a “corrections and clarifications column” in mid-October, the Guardian reported.
The move is significant, the Guardian explains, because “No other tabloid runs a regular column of that kind.” FullFact.org reported today that the first corrections column was published in today’s Mail on Sunday.
Dacre also defended print regulatory body the Press Complaints Commission, according to the Guardian. Dacre runs the editors’ code of practice committee for the group, which iMediaEthics finds interesting given the repeated accusations of plagiarism and other ethical breaches against the Daily Mail. It will, therefore, be interesting to see if this corrections column has real bite or if it is just a smokescreen.
