The UK Sun paid out money for fake claims last week, according to a separate Guardian report.

The newspaper had wrongly accused George Stanley Gibbs as being a man “deported from Thailand over sex offences.”  The Sun‘s March 17 story published a photo of Gibbs as well, the Guardian noted.

The Sun corrected its online version of the story March 30 and has issued a correction and apology to Gibbs.
