The publisher of Jackie magazine, which called Rihanna a “n—- b—-,” reportedly claimed the magazine did “nothing wrong” with its report.  Instead, he argued that Eva Hoeke, the magazine’s editor, should have made a different apology.

As we wrote, Hoeke resigned over the criticism Dec. 21.

Jackie‘s publisher Yves Gijrath is quoted by Gossip Cop as telling a Dutch news site that Hoeke “should have said, ‘We did not realize this interpretation is such a touchy subject. We never meant any harm and offer our sincere and upright apologies.’ But because of all the fuss, Eva started to wiggle in all directions, and therefore we have come to the conclusion her credibility has been undermined.””

New York Magazine also published Gijrath’s “translated statement.”

Further, Gossip Cop reported that Jackie “will not print a retraction in its upcoming issue.”   Christien de Vlam, the communication manager for Jackie‘s publisher, Gijrath Media Group, told iMediaEthics Dec. 22 that Jackie does plan to correct its incorrect statement claiming that Rihanna is Jamaican.

We wrote to de Vlam seeking confirmation of Gijrath’s quoted comments and to see if Jackie will or will not publish a retraction. We received an auto response that de Vlam is out of the office until January. We will update with any response.
