CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield issued a clarification after being criticized for her comments on homosexuality and pedophilia.

Banfield said May 31 that “pedophilia is not by choice” but “homosexuality is a lifestyle choice by people; it is voluntary,” Mediaite reported and posted a video clip of her comments.

She both tweeted and said on air a clarification. Her tweets read in part:

“Incest and pedophelia are CRIMES & victims have no choice. Being gay is not. Relatnshps r by choice. Way of life not crime.” and “Being gay is not a choice. Being in consensual relationship is. I support LGBT people.”

See here on CNN her on-air clarification that reads:

“I probably misspoke…but I want to be very clear. When I said that incest and pedophilia involve people who don’t have a choice, victims who don’t have a choice, and then said a gay relationship, you do have a choice, they are not crimes. Gay people involved in relationships are not committing any crimes at all. However, those who perpetrate incest and perpetrate pedophilia are committing crimes.”

As Open File Calgary noted June 1, “she didn’t actually apologize for her statement.”
