The London Evening Standard clarified an article after a restaurant complained that the article said it made customers pay for tap water, the Press Complaints Commission reported.

While in one case, a customer did have to pay £3.40 (around $5.30) for water “because it was ‘served in a nice jug,'” the restaurant claims it’s not common practice, the PCC wrote.  The Evening Standard defended against the complaint of inaccuracy, but still posted this statement on the article:

“Antonio Antunes has asked us to reiterate the restaurant’s assurance that this was a one-off mistake and that Los Molinos does not charge customers for tap-water, whether served by the glass or in a jug.”

The original article noted that charging for tap water “became illegal in 2010 under new laws intended to curb binge drinking” and that violating that law could lead to “a fine or imprisonment or both.”
