Cameroon’s National Communication Council advised journalists at a Sept. 11 “press briefing” to maintain journalism ethics, the Cameroon Tribune reported.

The council’s president Mgr. Joseph Befe Ateba reportedly “warned that media houses in Cameroon which do not respect ethics will be shut down,” according to the Tribune.

Also in mid-September, the council held its “first national seminar” for “over 300 participants” on media regulation and ethics.

In a separate article, the Tribune noted one of the seminar’s workshops was titled “Stakes and challenges of regulation in the media: Towards a responsible media.”

Reporters without Borders ranked Cameroon 79 of 179 countries on its annual press freedom ranking.
