The BBC Trust labeled the airing of a February comment by BBC host Jeremy Clarkson “offensive” and a “regrettable lapse of editorial judgment,” the Guardian reported.

Clarkson had compared “a Prius car/camper van hybrid to ‘people with growths on their faces,'” according to the Guardian.  The executive producer of Clarkson’s radio show noted that the comments were “scripted.”  The BBC Trust’s Editorial Standards Committee added that the comment was “an offensive stereotypical assumption.”

Viewers complained both to broadcast regulator OfCom and the BBC Trust, according to the Guardian‘s report.
