The BBC will warn viewers when it uses “user-generated material” in TV broadcasts, the Guardian reported.
The warnings will flag coverage the BBC isn’t 100% sure it’s legitimate. As an example, the Guardian noted the BBC has used an “on-air caution” reading:
“The BBC has not been able to fully authenticate this footage but, based on additional checks made on it, it is believed to be genuine.”
While the BBC said it does check out user-provided content, the warnings are supposed to be a way for the BBC to be “signposting this process to our audiences,” a BBC spokesperson told the Guardian.
