ABC News used a video of a Kentucky gun show and claimed it was a Turkish attack in northern Syria.
On Twitter, ABC World News apologized, stating: “CORRECTION: We’ve taken down video that aired on “World News Tonight” Sunday and “Good Morning America” this morning that appeared to be from the Syrian border immediately after questions were raised about its accuracy. ABC News regrets the error.”
iMediaEthics wrote to ABC News to ask how it obtained the video, what steps it took to verify the video before broadcast, how it learned of the problems with the video and what, if any, on air statements have been made.
An ABC News spokesperson told iMediaEthics, “We’ve taken down video that aired on “World News Tonight Sunday” and “Good Morning America” this morning that appeared to be from the Syrian border immediately after questions were raised about its accuracy. ABC News regrets the error.”
“The video first aired on ‘World News Tonight’ on Sunday evening. As the video played, anchor Tom Llamas said it appeared ‘to show Turkey’s military bombing Kurd civilians in Syrian border town,'” according to the Louisville Courier Journal.
