Alliance of Independent Journalists Indonesia Advises Fact Checking over Speed

The Indonesian Alliance of Independent Journalists advised journalism outlets put accuracy before being first, the Jakarta Post reported.

The group’s Indonesia chairperson, Eko “Item” Maryadi told the Online Media Annual Conference, that the council is receiving more and more “complaints about online news media,” and advised conference participants to follow the Indonesian press council’s code of ethics, according to the Jakarta Post.

We wrote earlier this month when the Indonesian press council released its “cyber media guidelines.”  The guidelines, which establish standards for publishing online journalism, define cybermedia as “any form of media that uses the Internet and doing journalistic activities, in accordance with the Press Law and the Standards for Press Companies established by the Press Council.”
