Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, Daughter Wyatt Sue UK Mail

Actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are suing the UK Daily Mail for its coverage of them and their daughter, Wyatt.

“Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have today issued High Court proceedings in London against Associated Newspapers on behalf of themselves and their daughter Wyatt over two articles published by MailOnline,” a press announcement about the lawsuit reads.

“Ashton and Mila understandably value their private and family life, and in particular their personal time with their daughter. Like any other family they should be allowed to enjoy family outings without being pursued by photographers. They have made it clear that they do not agree to the publication of photographs of such occasions,” their lawyer Paul Tweed said in a statement sent to iMediaEthics.

The couple says the paparazzi photos break the UK Data Protection Act and are a “misuse of private information,” according to the press statement sent to iMediaEthics. The lawsuit was filed in London over two articles published earlier this year.

The lawsuit says the Mail used the “wrongful publication of paparazzi photographs of family outings” and “the unauthorized use of the photographs promote clothing products by the Mail.”

What does that mean?

The Mail publishes some articles that include a “femail fashion finder” that shows where readers can buy a similar clothing item celebrities have worn. For an example, see this recent article on Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick that recommends a pair of jeans the Mail says are similar to Parker’s jeans.

iMediaEthics confirmed with Tweed that the Mail ran a similar feature regarding the Kutcher-Kunis family.

In 2013, Kutcher said in an interview with Elle magazine “I’ve learned the hard way how valuable privacy is.”

Kunis said of her relationship with Kutcher:”I am going to do everything in my power to have this relationship be private.”
