Associated Press to Start Linking

The new standard will call for the AP to provide an attribution such as “According to” with a link.  According to Nieman Lab, ” The change will be most noticeable on state wires, where pickups are common.”

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editor Martin Kaiser “brought the idea to the AP,” Nieman Lab reported. Read more here.

Meanwhile, a few years ago, the AP sent “takedown notices” to bloggers using AP content, SpeakMediaBlog reported in 2008.
