Bahrain will soon have an “independent high media council,” Gulf News reported.
Bahrain’s Independent Commission of Inquiry advised the creation of the council last November after Bahrain’s king called for review of “the events that hit Bahrain in February and March 2011,” like protests.
The full results of the review can be found here.
The council “will provide advice on media draft laws, monitor all media for possible incitement to rights violations and look into complaints against the media,” according to Gulf News.
Bahrain News Agency reported that the council is “the first of its kind in the Gulf region.”
