The New York Times reported on the difficulties of editorial independence at Bloomberg LP, specifically in the case of Henry Goldman, a reporter who covers Mayor Bloomberg, who owns the site he writes for. The Times explained:
“For 10 years, his assignment has included chronicling Mr. Bloomberg’s ups and downs for the global news service the mayor founded.”
Goldman has to carefully balance his reporting because if he’s favorable toward Bloomberg, he “risks looking like a shill.”
Both Bloomberg News and Goldman declined to be interviewed for the article. The Times noted that each article by Goldman about Bloomberg discloses Bloomberg’s relationship to Bloomberg LP. Read the whole report here.
Earlier this year, the Times reported about “Bloomberg View,” a new Op-Ed column feature on Bloomberg LP to “channel the views of Mr. Bloomberg himself.”
