As iMediaEthics previously reported, Canadian regulator Canada Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) was to consider a change to its rules regarding the airing of “false or misleading news.” The proposed change would alter the regulation’s wording to prohibit the airing of anything “the licensee knows is false or misleading and that endangers or is likely to endanger the lives, health or safety of the public.”
The proposed change triggered more than 3,000 comments from the public.
But, the committee that proposed the amended regulation, has withdrawn its suggested revision, the Wire Report reported. The regulation will reportedly remain as is, where broadcasters are required to not “broadcast any false or misleading news.”
