The Toronto Star reported that Canadian mayor, Phyllis Morris, has filed a $6 million defamation lawsuit against anonymous bloggers, “a popular local web forum” and the site’s web hosts.
Morris is the mayor of Aurora, Ontario, Canada.
The “six-page notice of action” claims that Morris “has been subjected to ridicule, hatred and contempt and suffered damage to her reputation,” the Star reported. The allegedly defamatory statements were posted on auroracitizen.ca from Aug. 24 and Oct. 2.
Further, because Morris filed the suit as mayor, The Star noted there’s a good chance the public will have to pay the legal fees through taxes.
