Canadian Police Want Retraction from Osoyoos Times

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have called on Canadian newspaper the Osoyoos Times  to “correct or retract” Feb. 8 editorial that said the editor was “disrespected and humiliated” by a police officer when he was pulled over, CBC reported.

The Osoyoos Times is a weekly community newspaper in British Columbia, according to its website.  The editorial was titled “Self-righteous Cops Who Treat Innocent Taxpayers like Criminals is Unacceptable” according to AM 1150 radio.

According to CBC, the newspaper has taken the article off its website. The police argue that the editorial makes “very serious” and “very negative” claims about the police that counter with police “audio and video” footage.  Further, the police argue that the newspaper editor “exploited his position” as a newspaper editor, according to the CBC.
