China’s Communist Party’s newspaper Global Times called for the international media to “take an objective and balanced view toward the country” in an editorial, Indo Asian News Service reported.
The editorial argued that the “foreign media discredited [China] with a biased perspective” but that China “takes a restrained attitude” and doesn’t counter to protect its “image.”
The May 10 editorial read in part:
“Foreign journalists in China must abide by journalistic ethics. They have their values and reporting angles, but the bottom line is that they should not turn facts upside down.”
The editorial came in response to the Chinese government’s decision to not renew Al-Jazeera’s Beijing correspondent Melissa Chan’s “press credentials and visa.”
