CNN’s Matt Dornic told iMediaEthics that the reports that CNN aired the wrong photo of the alleged Connecticut school shooter are false. When iMediaEthics asked about the reports, Dornic said by email:
“I saw that photo on Fox News but it did not run on CNN. Someone has their story wrong.”
We asked Dornic specifically about Gawker’s story, which said CNN did use the photo. He responded that: “Gawker got it wrong. They are updating.”
Gawker’s Max Read, who wrote the post in question, told iMediaEthics by email:
“No — we never saw CNN air it; I was just going off of Lanza’s comments. The post has since been corrected to reflect that.”
Gawker’s post now notes that “CNN emailed after this post went up to make it clear that they never ran his photo; Fox News apparently did.”
UPDATE: 12/14/2012 3:32 PM EST: Added in Gawker’s update
UPDATE: 12/14/2012 3:37 PM EST: iMediaEthics has written to Fox News asking for comment and will update with any response.
