1. Again?
The New York Times wrongly reported that Mayor Pete Buttigieg is the first openly gay presidential candidate. This is noteworthy because the Times made this error last month but still repeated the mistake. The New York Times‘ Nov. 26 correction:
“A summary with an article on Saturday about the weekly newsletter from “The Daily” referred incorrectly to Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential candidacy. While he is the first openly gay candidate to reach the top-tier of candidates in a major party’s nominating process, he is not the first openly gay candidate to run for a major party’s presidential nomination. (Fred Karger earned that distinction in his run for the 2012 Republican nomination.)”
2. Billions or millions?
The Associated Press mis-converted euros to dollars in a late November story. The Associated Press published the following correction:
“In a story Nov. 28 about the European Space Agency, The Associated Press provided an incorrect U.S. dollar conversion for the 12.5 billion euros pledged by the agency’s member countries for its three-year budget period. That is about $13.7 billion, not $13.7 million.”
3. Another conversion error — the AP wasn’t alone.
The New York Times‘ Nov. 23 correction:
“An article on Friday about a family in India who masqueraded for decades as Oudh royalty misstated the dollar value of 10,000 rupees in 1975. It was about $1,200, not $90,000.”
4. What is the relationship between Black Panther characters?
A Nov. 19 New York Times correction:
“An article last Tuesday about the musician Ludwig Goransson misstated the relationship between two characters in “Black Panther,” T’Challa and Erik Killmonger. They are cousins, not half brothers.”
