Diane Sawyer to Clarify after Alabama Tornado Report Criticized by Local Meteorologist

Diane Sawyer’s World News program plans to clarify its Jan. 23 report on an Alabama tornado after complaints from Birmingham meteorologist, according to Media Bistro’s TV Spy.

Meteorologist James Spann of Birmingham news station WBMA blogged critically of World News’ coverage of the tornadoes because Sawyer said they “took the South by surprise last night, no warning.”  However, Spann argued in Jan. 24 blogpost titled “Diane Sawyer gets it Wrong” that:

“This event was forecast days in advance, and the average lead times for the entire event were 20 to 30 minutes. That is plenty of time to get to a safe place.”
