Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiac surgeon and talk show host with a history of dispensing controversial medical advice, said he “misspoke” on Fox News when he said re-opening schools was “an appetizing opportunity.”
“I’ve realized my comments on risks around opening schools have confused and upset people which was never my intention. I misspoke,” he said in part.
In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Oz said, according to the New York Times:
“We need our mojo back. Let’s start with things that are really critical to the nation where we think we might be able to open without getting into a lot of trouble. I tell you, schools are a very appetizing opportunity.”
Oz cited an article saying re-opening schools would “only cost us 2 to 3 percent in terms of total mortality” which he said “might be a trade-off some folks would consider.”
Oz also wrongly claimed on Fox & Friends this week that Boston University canceled its fall semester, Deadline reported.
