Eliot Spitzer Sued for Defamation over 2010 Slate Article

Eliot Spitzer’s August 22, 2010 article for Slate is now the subject of $90 million defamation lawsuit, Gothamist reported.

The article, “They Still Don’t Get It,” was “in response to a Wall Street Journal editorial,” according to Gothamist.

Neither of the two plaintiffs — Edward McNenney and William Gilman — are identified in Spitzer’s article.  Instead Gilman claims the Spitzer article “made it appear that he had committed crimes.”  The sentences in question refer to cases involving the two men:

“The editorial notes that two of the cases against employees of the company were dismissed after the defendants had been convicted. The judge found that certain evidence that should have been turned over to the defense was not.”

Bloomberg explained that the Wall Street Journal article was “critical of” Spitzer’s investigation into the “financial crisis.”
