The Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma is holding a workshop Sept. 21-22 on “Covering Suicide.

In an email announcing the workshop, the center’s executive director Bruce Shapiro wrote that “the workshop will arm journalists with facts, ethical perspectives and evidence-informed newsroom practices.”

The workshop will be in Philadelphia and Shapiro’s email added that “registration is open to reporters, editors, photographers, producers and news managers from the mid-Atlantic region (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington D.C.) with a limited number of places available for journalists from outside the region.”

Shapiro told iMediaEthics by email that “this is the first workshop sponsored by the Dart Center to focus specifically on suicide” and that “past special-topic workshops have included such subjects as covering veterans, intimate-partner violence and border reporting.”

Read more about the workshop on the center’s website.
