The Globe and Mail will now run its print corrections on “page 2 of the front section, rather than wherever the error appeared,” Globe and Mail public editor Sylvia Stead announced.
Stead, who wrote recently about some of the more interesting corrections the newspaper published in 2012, explained that the new practice is part of the paper’s intent to provide “greater transparency, to make it easier to see anything that has gone wrong in the paper.”
As Stead explained to iMediaEthics in December, the Globe and Mail’s “standard practice” for online corrections is to change the text and add an “editor’s note,” not a “correction,” to “explain what was wrong in a previous version.”
