As iMediaEthics wrote last week, the UK police tried to find out who the Guardian’s anonymous sources were for some of its reports on the phone hacking charges against News International.
The Guardian announced yesterday that the police “dropped its attempt” to learn the sources’ identity. According to the police’s statement, as published by the Guardian, the police “decided not to pursue, at this time, the application.”
In response, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Alan Rusbridger called the order “ill-judged” and noted that the newspaper had planned to fight any order to reveal sources.
