Hackers formerly associated with hacking group Anonymous hacked into one of Fox News’ Twitter accounts this morning and posted fake news messages that President Barack Obama was assassinated, CNN reported. The International Business Times reported that hacking group “The Script Kiddies” stated it is behind the hack.
According to the fake tweets, posted on the @FoxNewsPolitics Twitter account, Obama “was shot twice” and killed at an Iowa restaurant.
Fox News apologized, stating that “hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated,” and added that the tweets were “incorrect.”
As of 11:15 AM EST this morning, the tweets were still posted. The tweets were deleted by 4:30 PM EST
