As iMediaEthics previously wrote, following accusations and later admission of plagiarism, UK Independent journalist gave back his 2008 Orwell Prize. Since then, the Orwell Prize committee announced that its investigation of Hari’s work found that Hari plagiarized from Der Spiegel for one of his award-winning articles.
However, despite Hari’s announcement and the Orwell Prize Committee’s confirmation that Hari had returned the award, Hari didn’t return the £2,000 Orwell prize money. According to Journalism.co.uk, Hari did tell the committee he would return the money, but the group that provides the prize money, Political Quarterly journal, asked Hari to donate the money.
The committee suggested Hari give the money to English charity PEN.
