Johann Hari’s suspension from the UK Independent ends in “four or five weeks’ time,” Journalism.co.uk reported the Independent’s editor Chris Blackhurst said.
As we have written, Hari was suspended after being busted for using quotes from other publications in his articles and presenting the quotes as if they were made during his own interviews. After an internal review, the Independent announced in September that he would be have to take “four months’ unpaid leave” and take a “journalism training program.”
Blackhurst denied that the newspaper tried to “cover-up” the incident and argued that the newspaper was right to keep the internal investigation into Hari private,” Journalism.co.uk reported.
As part of Hari’s suspension, he had to pay for ethics training, which Blackhurst said Hari has had in New York.
