Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, for her Washington Post op-ed about domestic abuse, according to NBC News.

Heard’s December Washington Post editorial was headlined, “I stood up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” Heard and Depp were married in 2015; she accused him of domestic violence in 2016, and they divorced in 2017, NBC News reported. Entertainment Weekly noted that they settled their divorce out of court and signed NDAs.

Her op-ed didn’t name Depp, her ex-husband, but Depp’s lawsuit claims it was about him, saying, “The op-ed depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.”

Depp claims in the lawsuit Heard’s domestic abuse allegations were “part of an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity for Ms. Heard and advance her career.”
