The Los Angeles Times corrected an Oct. 18 article that confused astronaut Neil Armstrong with cyclist Lance Armstrong.
The article’s headline originally read “After Nike drops Neil Armstrong: Other athletes who’ve been cut,” according to a screenshot posted by Jim Romenesko.
The headline has since been corrected to read Lance and is flagged at the top of the article with a note reading “This post has been corrected. See below for details.” Posted at the bottom of the article:
“[For the Record, 9:59 a.m. Oct. 18: The headline on an earlier version of this post referred to Neil Armstrong. As the text of the post says, Nike cut ties with Lance Armstrong.]“
iMediaEthics wrote about a similar type of headline mix-up involving Neil Armstrong in August. In a report on the death of Neil Armstrong, NBC News headlined its story “Astronaut Neil Young, first man to walk on moon, dies at age 82.”
