Lawsuit against Examiner Blogger Adam Meister Dropped

Baltimore, Maryland city council member Belinda Conaway dropped her libel and emotional distress lawsuit against Examiner.com and its blogger Adam Meister, the Associated Press reported.  The lawsuit was filed in May over Meister’s column which reported that “even though Conaway represents Baltimore’s Seventh Electoral District, she lives in Randallstown, Md., in violation of the Baltimore City Charter.”

His evidence was a “sworn statement signed by Conaway, and homestead property tax exemption records” showing the Randallstown address “as her principal residence,” according to Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

Also as evidence, Meister published a picture of a “deed indicating the [Randallstown] house was Conaway’s primary residence,” the Baltimore Sun reported.

Conaway’s attorney Thomas Maronick Jr., reportedly claimed that he and Conaway “did not actually see that document initially,” even though the image was “linked to” by Meister, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Maronick reportedly suggested the image could have been a fake. Meister has called for voters to support Conaway’s opinion, the City Paper reported.
