The UK Leveson Inquiry is reviewing the “culture, practice and ethics of the press,” as we have written.
The inquiry’s hearings started Nov. 14, but the inquiry was launched in July amidst growing accusations of hacking and more against the News of the World.
According to Journalism.co.uk, the inquiry published its “breakdown of costs” on its website Dec. 21, which reveals that in the first three months — from July to October, the inquiry cost 855,300 pounds — or $1.3 million. Costs include staff, a website and “hearing costs, including transcription,” among other expenses.
See here the “inquiry costs” report, which notes: “As these figures cover the start-up period, they do not reflect the average monthly costs for the Inquiry; the overall projections will be clearer when the next set of costs is published in March 2012.”
Journalism.co.uk noted that taxpayers are paying for the inquiry.
