As iMediaEthics has previously reported, Maine newspaper the Portland Press Herald gave almost $47,000 worth of free advertising to a political campaign to directly elect the mayor of Portland.  Former Portland Charter Commission member Thomas Valleau filed the complaint with the ethics commission claiming that the newspaper “violated Maine campaign laws.”

The state Ethics Commission’s staff “is recommending the commission take no further action on a complaint lodged against the Portland Press Herald,” Maine Public Broadcasting Network reported.

According to the Forecaster, “The Ethics Commission is scheduled to take up the complaint on Thursday, Feb. 17.”
