Mirror Group Newspapers to Pay £75,000 for Libelous Claim man is Sex Offender

Mirror Group Newspapers must pay man ” £75,000 in damages” for The People’s libelous claims in a September 2010 story that he is a “convicted sex offender,” Journalism.co.uk reportedAccording to the BBC, The People  claimed the man “was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl.”

The man has not been named and is identified as “KC” during court, Journalism.co.uk noted.  The man is “the natural father of Baby P,” Peter Connelly.  The 17-month-old was “found dead with more than 50 injuries at his mother’s home…in August 2007,” according to the BBC.  The baby’s mother, her boyfriend, and his brother were “jailed in 2009 after admitting causing ro allowing his death,” the BBC reported.

The People did publish a November 2010 apology that “the allegations are without foundation and that Baby P’s father has never been convicted of any criminal offences. We apologise to Baby P’s father for making this error and for the very considerable distress and embarrassment our article caused him.”
