The Montreal Gazette apologized to readers for “inappropriate comments posted on Twitter” by reporter Anne Sutherland. In its apology, the Gazette cited its “social media policy” guidelines, which called for its journalists to “conduct themselves in a manner that does not compromise themselves, their colleagues or the newspaper.”
According to Montreal Open File, staff reporter Anne Sutherland posted “pretty snarky comments” with photos from “nearly naked” protest May 3. While Sutherland “eventually deleted the worst of the tweets” and apparently her Twitter account, screenshots still circulate of her comments, which received “many..angry comments.” See here some of the screenshots.
A May 4 story by Sutherland on the protest was published here. According to the article, the students were “striking…to protest, yet again, against Quebec’s proposed tuition hikes.”
