Malta’s Parliament is looking into creating journalism code of ethics and source protection for journalists, Malta Today reported.
Currently, Malta’s Press Act lets journalists “withhold their sources when involved in a libel case,” but “other legislation…cancel out the provisions protecting journalists,” according to Malta Today.
A Parliamentary committee’s chairperson, Franco Debono, also suggested journalists in Malta get accredited and lawyer Joe Zammit Maempel called for journalists to have formal training.
