The Guadian has a new readers editor, Elisabeth Ribbans.
Ribbans introduced herself in a Feb. 2 column as a former managing editor for the paper who is returning after seven years. Despite the expansion of the Guardian to its international editions, online, print, app, podcast and social media publications, she wrote, “what doesn’t change are the values, and what shouldn’t change are high standards.”
Ribbans reminded that she is independent of the newsroom and reports to the Guardian parent company Scott Trust. “My priority must be complaints under Guardian News & Media’s editorial code – an updated version of which is in progress – but our desk also handles corrections, and feedback, and promotes your voice to editors,” she wrote.
As public editor, she promised to read all reader e-mails, and added, ” I start from a position that all complaints are made in good faith – and equally that no journalist comes to work to mislead or mistreat readers”
