NPR Stops Carrying ‘World of Opera’ because Host involved with Occupy D.C. Protest

National Public Radio announced Oct. 21 that it will stop carrying the program “World of Opera.”  As iMediaEthics has written, the program’s host, Lisa Simeone, has been working with Occupy D.C. and was fired from NPR’s program “Soundprint” because of the involvement.

WDAV, which had stated it would stand by Simeone, “will take over distribution of the public radio opera show,” according to NPR. WDAV has been and will continue to pay Simeone, who isn’t and hasn’t been an NPR employee .

NPR’s senior vice president for communications Dana Davis Rehm is quoted as saying that as an NPR host, Simeone and other hosts “represent NPR regardless of the type of program they host.”
